You’ve put a lot of time and effort into this spending plan thing. Once you’ve created a plan, try to stick to it. Don’t take on an unplanned expense unless you cut somewhere else.
It’s a good idea to build-in a process for keeping yourself honest. The method you use to follow your spending plan is possibly more important than any step you’ve taken thus far.
You could hold a weekly money meeting, set a daily reminder on your phone, or use an app to help you stay on track. Find something that’s easy for you.
At the end of the month (or maybe even the week), compare your actual spending to your plan. Did you stay on track? If not, why not? Tweak your spending plan and your behavior until you find a workable balance. Don’t be afraid to adjust if you need to — then work hard to stick to the plan next month (or week).
